Why Mortise Lock is Perfect for your Home or Business

Every year, millions of dollars in goods are stolen from homes and offices across the nation. Many times, these thefts happen in seemingly safe, well-locked homes with standard issue cylindrical or tubular locks. Unbeknownst to homeowners, standardized door preps like these can be opened by experienced lock picks without a great deal of difficulty–and because they are standardized, once you know how to open one, you know how to open all of them. On the other hand, big, heavy locks can be very unattractive and in particular can lead to a negative view of businesses. To solve both of these problems, we have developed the elegant, secure, Mortise Lock.

1. Security

The Mortise Lock has one of the largest lock bodies on the market, and conceals within it any number of complex mechanism templates. These templates are impossible to distinguish from the outside, ensuring that any potential burglar will be frustrated and confounded by the inability to easily bypass the mechanism. Studies show that most criminals, faced with the prospect of having to spend extra time on the lock, will quickly flee rather than risk neighbor’s noticing them and risking police intervention. Mortise Locks are also available with latches and deadbolts, for the most safety possible.

2. Aesthetics

The Mortise Lock has been specifically developed to adhere to common templates found in the doors of both luxury homes and upscale offices. The lock’s customizable, decorative trim looks fantastic on both wooden and metal doors, and is available in both antique and modern styles. While the lock has a very large body, this isn’t noticeable from outside: instead, the body rests within a “Mortise Pocket” cut into the frame of the door itself. Mortise locks are available in a wide variety of backset, latch, and deadbolt configurations, for any home or office. In the case of breakage, all Mortise locks are interchangeable with one another with no visible retrofit issues.

3. Ease of Installation

Mortise Locks can be installed by either the individual purchasing them or by a professional locksmith. All Mortise jigs and templates contain the tools needed to install them, with the exception of standard installation tools. All of our jigs are constructed from high quality machined aluminum, and are constructed to remain durable in the face of heavy use. Because Mortise locks do not use the standardized templates of other lock manufacturers, they can be customized for the particular needs of individual doors. Detailed instructions are available on our website for those wishing to install the lock and pocket themselves.
